Grade-Level Retention Data Search

The grade-level retention rate is the percentage of students who are retained in grade from one year to the next. These data sets include the number and rate of retained students for all Grade K-12 students and various student groups. Currently, there are several ways in which to view grade-level retention data.

Grade-level retention data searches and downloads are available and presented by year.

Data searches allow the user to view or download a report for a single campus, district, education service center (ESC) region, or for the state. Data downloads are Excel (.xlsx) files that include grade-level retention data by race/ethnicity, gender, economic status, and other student groups (e.g., at-risk, emergent bilingual, and special education) for all campuses, districts, or counties in the state.

Additionally, reports on statewide grade-level retention are available. An interactive report, in which users can filter data, provides grade-level retention data by race/ethnicity, gender, economic status, and other student groups (e.g., at-risk, emergent bilingual, and special education). A companion report, Grade-Level Retention and Student Performance, presents data on the performance of retained students on the reading and mathematics state assessments (e.g., STAAR).
